Kimi Raikkonen jumped to the top of the times in Istanbul Park in Friday afternoon's second practice for the Turkish Grand Prix after lapping his Ferrari in 1m 27.543s, but Lewis Hamilton ran him close for McLaren with 1m 27.579s, as P1 pacesetter Felipe Massa took third place on 1m 27.682s. Rain at lunchtime left the track slightly slippery initially, and after half an hour Mark Webber shunted his Red Bull head-on into the barriers in Turn Six after spinning. That brought out the red flag for a while as the wreckage was cleared away, but the Australian was unhurt... Publ.Date : Fri, 09 May 2008 12:59:00 GMT

The fact that Heikki Kovalainen was cleared on Thursday to race in Turkey this weekend is testament to the progress the FIA and their individual safety delegates have made since the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna at Imola 14 years ago. Kovalainen was in good form, raring to get back into a new McLaren MP4-23, and described the steps he went through to prove to the FIA doctors that he was fully fit. Unlike Robert Kubica, after his heavy shunt in Canada last year, he had two weeks in which to recover fully... Publ.Date : Fri, 09 May 2008 07:18:00 GMT
Felipe Massa loves the track here in Istanbul Park, and it showed in Friday morning's first practice for the Turkish Grand Prix as the Ferrari driver headed the timesheets with a best lap of 1m 27.323s. That shaded his 2007 pole time by 0.006s, despite cooler temperatures and the ban on traction control. The latter prompted many spins on the still-dirty track, as the McLarens of Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton took second and third places close behind the red car... Last year happy faces were in short supply at Honda, but it seems that in 2008 smiles are slowly returning to the Japanese squad. The reason for this change in mood has largely been a result of Ross Brawn's arrival as team principal. While Brawn has revitalized the team, Jenson Button has been proving he still has the instinct to seize chances when they arise, most recently in Barcelona, where he scored three points from his sixth-placed finish. And Button is convinced Honda's performance will continue to improve into 2009… Publ.Date : Fri, 09 May 2008 15:51:00 GMT
Maturing under the eyes of the international media is always difficult, especially when it is accompanied by such high expectations. But Lewis Hamilton seems to be doing it with class and dignity - an impression that grows with every interview he gives. Whether it's meeting Nelson Mandela, or challenging Kimi Raikkonen on the track, he leaves you with no doubt that he is always one hundred percent involved - half-heartedness is not his thing. Now he just needs that commitment to pay off in Istanbul… Publ.Date : Thu, 08 May 2008 20:23:00 GMT

Drivers: Jenson Button (Honda), Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren), Robert Kubica (BMW Sauber), Kazuki Nakajima (Williams). Q: Kazuki, this is a circuit like in Spain which you've been to before, if not in an F1 car. What are your feelings about coming here and how has it been to come to circuits that you've known before? Kazuki Nakajima: It is much better. Even Malaysia and Bahrain I have been there and also Melbourne, so it doesn't make too much difference. Obviously Barcelona was one I knew much better than the other circuits... Publ.Date : Thu, 08 May 2008 15:19:00 GMT
Takuma Sato insists he has no plans to retire from Formula One racing following the demise of Super Aguri. Sato had been with the Japanese team since their debut in 2006 and scored their first championship points in last year's Spanish Grand Prix. Super Aguri was put into administration on Thursday after financial difficulties forced boss Aguri Suzuki to withdraw the team from competition. Sato described the news as 'sad and disappointing', but believes he still has plenty to offer Formula One racing... Publ.Date : Thu, 08 May 2008 09:08:00 GMT
He's arguably the most underestimated driver on the grid, but then again Nick Heidfeld has never been one to crave attention. Confident of his own ability - even when others have been writing him off - Heidfeld has quietly established himself as a serious podium contender. Being forced to refuel under the safety car in Spain didn't help his 2008 championship standing, but the German has promised himself he will finish higher this season than last, and now Turkey is his top priority...
